Facts Apply To Us Too
Two things can be true, the black and white doesn't negate the presence of the grey and often the significant grey is mostly ignored.
If a government shoots and kills a thousand rebels but loses 200 soldiers, the report is a thousand rebels were killed (and that only) on the rebels' side; the report also is 200 of the government soldiers were killed (and that only). Both are facts, however not conveying the full picture hence fact cannot be said to hold true in any situation here. The truth is that facts apply to us too as climate change advocates otherwise it does the cause no good and simply is participative and virtual signaling.
Electrical vehicles are seen as a new frontier in doing away with fossil fuels, correct, the research supports it and the reduction in the use of fossil fuels supports it. Do the kids in the Congo, the Central African Republic, and the Zimbabwean artisanal miners earning peanuts with little to no protection say the same, and do the environmental effects on these ecosystems support this?
A Tesla is driven and we applaud but how many child labourers in the DRC suffered to dig out that lithium, for peanuts, transported to China, and then shipped to Europe and the developed West? Sadly, we're not combating the enemy within the camp. Even before we go further and point fingers outward there are issues within the climate change advocacy communities and this must be addressed because only then when the centre holds is there a progressive movement towards encouraging effective change.
The third world contributes a majority of the raw materials that we are using today as finished products imported from the global north and this has created a situation where we have to first deal with realities and be structural in our advocacy. In no way will an African country with less than 30 percent of its population on the electric grid dumb its vast oil reserves and coal reserves to go electric while it has a populace still in need.
What we need to encourage are practical solutions that are very in tune with economic solutions. Vanessa Nakate with great fail among other prominent activists tried to vocalize the effects of building a gas pipeline through the Serengeti but what was to be heard from her cries in regards to the science? The fact of the matter was the populace of these East African countries came from acute gas shortages and high household energy bills and worse when this information is amplified by former colonial masters whose faces people so amply remember.
It means, it now takes a geopolitical shape in the eyes of the people and their leaders against Vanessa Nakate, her and her supposed handlers regardless of the good initially intended, mind you these supposed handlers come from countries with close to a 100 percent gas and electric connection with a lot of the resources in a perpetual footprint relaying back to the African continent and the third world.
These are hard-to-hear things in our community of climate change advocates but they must be heard and a structural approach must be formulated, furthermore and lastly but not least walk-backs by countries that have been seen as the biggest drivers of climate change advocatism to the extent of sanctioning countries that contravene do further damage in ostracizing the climate change community in the eyes of said naysayers and those skeptics about climate change.
A clear and systematic approach must entail the initial fact that we will never hit net zero in fossil fuel use as long as there is money to be made, the goal should always be minimalization to the point where the planet is not in perpetual decline. Secondly, the economic question shouldn't be negated, in terms of resource exploitation, climate change hypocrisy, and furthermore lack of a collective agreement on punishment and this is meant by us separating geopolitics from necessity in nature's survival.
Until these simple but complex to-do fundamentals are addressed [and this begins with talking about them as this], then we are only taking minor steps where Mr. Big Foot would have been finally sighted.
